Our mission
The Labour Environmental Policy Centre (LEPC) is committed to delivering environmental protection and climate action whilst upholding labour movement values.
LEPC believes that well designed policy can benefit people and communities while shifting our economy from its current trajectory of unacceptable impacts on nature and the climate. We have no choice but to find solutions that support communities and ensure their economic wellbeing, while radically reducing the extractive nature of our current paradigm.
LEPC develops and socialises policy.
It works with civil society, unions, and governments to deliver change.
And it encourages the exchange of ideas between environment and labour thinkers and traditions.
POLICY DEVELOPMENT
The Labour Environmental Policy Centre develops environmental policy solutions deeply rooted in an understanding of the political context in which we operate. It understands the policy window, in order to mould bold policy that serves climate, environment and stakeholders, while working with government for delivery.
BUILDING THE LABOUR ENVIRONMENT DISCOURSE
The Labor Environmental Policy Centre is committed to building deeper roots of intellectual discussion on issues of climate and environment within the traditional left.
Fellowships LEPC hosts labour movement writers to consider environment and climate issues and the relationship between the two most significant movements of the past century - the labour and environment movements.
History Project LEPC is committed to recording the history of environment and its role in organised labour debates and the history of the Labor Party.
CONNECT, COLLABORATE, EDUCATE
The Labor Environment Policy Centre is committed to seeing its policy work make change in the world. It does this though connecting, collaborating and educating. It seek to build coalitions around pragmatic policy. LEPC fosters strong relationships with unions, civil society and industry. It works with community to educate and make connections. It works with actors across government, including decision makers, to deliver change.
